Went yesterday (monday) for my pre-operation test, sinus surgery is on friday to fix my deviated septum and open me up so I can breath better. I just think back to Big Trouble in Little China where Jack tells Gracie, “Yeah, I know, theres something wrong with your face”.

Yes, I am so tired of these Northern California allergies, I acutally have to have a CT scan today to see how bad things in my sinuses are. I am just telling people that “I need to have my head examined” unfortunately they agree with me too easily. I head to the ENT next week for the results. too much fun.

Today was a fairly diverse day:
I finished a flyer for the Benjamin Moore promotion
. It came out quite well.
Our software vendor for the point of sale system has not updated the database and it keeps copying an error in one of the databases so I created a stored procedure and setup a trigger in the SQL server to correct the bad records.
The company accountant needs access to the intranet so I setup a user for them to securely login to the system. I updated the sales goals page for the month.

Worked on a new advertising flier today, some of the elements from the manufacturer were in MAC QarkXPress format, so I had to load the Windows Quark program save the files to editable images. They I opened the images into Adobe Fireworks and cleaned up the transparent backgrounds a bit. Finally combined all of the pieces into Xara Xtreme Pro to lay it all out.

Got a new server in today, I was trying to setup Windows Server 2003 x64 and have it run PHP. The web server would run and PHP would work fine but it would not connect to the Microsoft SQL Server. I worked through every quirk that I could find and it would never connect. I wiped the hard drive and installed Windows Server 2003 x32 edition, setup PHP with the exact files as before and it works. I would rather try the x64 edition but since PHP is a 32 bit application is doesn’t matter that much. But now the company intranet is much faster and more stable. For those who are wondering why I didn’t use a linux server, I have written the website in ASP, ASPX and PHP. I hope to convert everything to PHP soon, but with our point of sale system hard coded for MSSQL, I won’t be able to move it to a LAMP configuration.

What a great show, Todd has a way of putting everyting into perspective. He has a new album coming out on July 17th, I know that my wife is going to want this one. The show made me wish that our old youth pastor had not left our church. Will most likely be moving away from the area soon perhaps we can find a church with the same outlook that Todd Agnew has.
On other notes: still looking for work in Southern California, hopefully there will be a job that I can get soon.

Cleaned the office today, it was about time. I had not seen the desk for about a month with all of the paperwork that people on my desk. Wouldnt be so bad but 99% of the stuff I just end up throwing away. Even stuff from the company owner, who cant just forward me the email that he gets he has to print it out and give it to me, like that will make all the difference. No, just wastes paper and cuts into the profit sharing program. Read more…

Trying out AVG Anti-Virus the free edition. Installation was simple and quick had no problems. Running the first scan the program scanned all of the available drives from this computer, even network drives. Program found several infected files that neither Norton nor PCTools anti-virus found. Program has nice options and basic interface, which is all that you need for a virus program, not the fancy graphic interfaces that Norton has. Just need something that works. AVG does.
